CNSS Mi Ton and the CNSS pension: what you need to know

Benin's CNSS pension: the CNSS Mi Ton app, online simulators, age and contribution period, voluntary insurance and pensioners living in Belgium.

CNSS Mi Ton

Did you work in Benin as an employee before settling in Belgium? Your contributions to the National Social Security Fund (CNSS) may entitle you to a CNSS pension. The CNSS Mi Ton app sets out the fund's benefits and the documents you need to provide. This guide explains what the app really does, which online tools work, and an important rule for pensioners who live outside Benin.

What the CNSS Mi Ton app does

CNSS Mi Ton brings together information on the institution and its benefits: family allowances, pensions, occupational risks and voluntary insurance, with the forms and the documents to provide. It does not let you view your own contributions or your career record.

To be frank: since 2025, many users have reported that the app shows an Internet connection error even though the phone is online, and its last update dates from April 2024. If it does not work for you, the CNSS website offers the same information.

Estimating your CNSS pension online

The fund's website provides simulators, with no account needed: old-age pension and allowance, early pension, survivors' pension and allowance, social charges on hiring and late-payment surcharges. The official forms (pension application, pension certificate, registration for voluntary insurance) can be downloaded from the CNSS forms page.

The conditions for a CNSS pension

  • Age: 60, after stopping all salaried work.
  • Period: at least 180 months of insurance, i.e. 15 years.
  • Early retirement: possible up to five years earlier, with a reduction of 5% per year taken early.
  • Processing time: 90 days for an old-age or invalidity pension.
  • Time limit: rights lapse after seven years, so do not delay in claiming them.

CNSS pension and living in Belgium

A key point for the diaspora: Article 109 of the Social Security Code provides that benefits are suspended when the beneficiary does not live in Benin, unless there is a reciprocity agreement or an international convention. The CNSS lists conventions with several West African countries and France, but we found no social security convention between Belgium and Benin, on either the Beninese or the Belgian side.

Before applying for your CNSS pension from Belgium, write to the CNSS to find out your exact situation. Payment by bank transfer requires, among other things, a bank details statement (RIB), the pension card and a life certificate.

Continuing to contribute: voluntary insurance

An insured person who leaves salaried employment may, after at least six consecutive months of membership, continue to contribute voluntarily to the pensions branch for a limited period. The registration form for voluntary insurance asks for your wages over the last twelve quarters. Nothing suggests this option is available from abroad: check with the CNSS.

Frequently asked questions

The CNSS Mi Ton app does not work. What should I do?

Many users have reported a connection error since 2025, with no official fix. Use the cnss.bj website, which offers the simulators and forms.

At what age can you receive a CNSS pension?

At 60, with at least 180 months of insurance. An early pension is possible up to five years earlier, with a reduction of 5% per year.

Can you receive a CNSS pension while living in Belgium?

The Social Security Code provides for benefits to be suspended outside Benin, unless an international convention applies. We found no convention between Belgium and Benin: ask the CNSS directly about your case.

How can you check your CNSS contributions?

No online service allows this for now. The certificate of registration and payment of contributions is requested at a branch office (500 FCFA, two days).

Is CNSS Mi Ton available on iPhone?

No, it is only available on Android. Beware of similarly named apps: “Ma CNSS” is the Moroccan app.
