Installation of the honorary consul

Appointed by the Government of Benin, the Honorary Consul of Benin in Liège, Dr Benoît AKANDO, was officially installed on Saturday 17 September 2016 by the Ambassador of Benin to Belgium, H.E. Charles Borromée TODJINOU.

The event featured the inauguration of the new consular premises at Mont Saint-Martin 84, 4000 Liège, followed by the handing over of the seal and exequatur at the Liège Congress Centre.

A medical doctor specialising in anaesthesia and intensive care, Dr Benoît AKANDO heads the intensive care unit at St. Josef Hospital in Sankt Vith. He succeeds Mrs Micheline CHARLIER as Honorary Consul, with jurisdiction over the whole of Wallonia.

Our mission

The jurisdiction of the honorary consulate covers Wallonia. The consulate administers and protects Beninese nationals within its jurisdiction, in compliance with local law and public order.

Civil status

The honorary consulate assists nationals with civil-status, administrative and travel-document procedures, within the limits of its authority.

Consular protection

The honorary consulate assists nationals facing difficulties with local authorities, within the limits of international law, and supports passport applications.

Cooperation

The honorary consulate promotes commercial, economic, cultural and scientific relations between the two States.
