Appointed by the Government of Benin, the new Honorary Consul of Benin in Liège, Dr Benoît AKANDO, was officially installed on Saturday 17 September 2016 by the Ambassador of Benin to Belgium, H.E. Charles Borromée TODJINOU.
Two highlights
First, the opening of the premises of the new honorary consulate at Mont Saint-Martin 84, 4000 Liège; then the handover of the seal and exequatur during an official ceremony at the Palais des Congrès in Liège.
The ceremony brought together the city authorities of Liège, the resident consular corps, staff of the Embassy of Benin in Brussels, the Beninese community in Belgium and many relatives and friends of the new consul. Former Beninese Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Saliou AKADIRI also attended.
Beninese culture in the spotlight
Cultural performances showcased the artistic and culinary heritage of Benin, which the new consul pledged to promote. A medical doctor specialising in anaesthesia and intensive care, deeply involved in Beninese associations in Belgium, Dr AKANDO succeeds Mrs Micheline CHARLIER as Honorary Consul, with jurisdiction over Wallonia.
