Benin embassy in Belgium: who to contact since the Brussels closure?

Many Beninese nationals still look for the Benin embassy in Belgium in Uccle. However, this post ceased operations at the end of 2020. Here is who to contact today, and for which procedure.

The Benin embassy in Belgium closed at the end of 2020

The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Benin in Brussels was located at 5, avenue de l'Observatoire, in Uccle. It also handled relations with the European Union. Its closure was part of the downsizing of Benin's diplomatic network, aimed at streamlining public spending.

The definitive end of the embassy's activities was announced in December 2020. Reference sources give 3 December 2020 as the official closing date. Since then, the Uccle address has no longer received the public.

Please note: some online directories still show the Uccle address and old phone numbers. Do not go there and do not send any file there.

Paris, the embassy in charge of Belgium

Belgium now falls under the Embassy of Benin in France. In Europe, Benin keeps only two embassies, in Paris and in Moscow. The Paris post is therefore accredited to several states, including Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, as well as to the European Union.

These details are listed on the Embassy of Benin in France page. The Belgium page of our directory also points to this post.

An ambassador accredited to King Philippe

The link with Belgium is a formal one. On 19 June 2024, Ms Corinne Amori Brunet, Benin's ambassador in Paris, presented her credentials to King Philippe. She thus represented Benin in Belgium, while residing in Paris.

On 24 May 2026, she became Minister of Foreign Affairs in the first Wadagni government. Since then, the embassy has been headed by Mr Angelo Dan, Deputy Head of Mission, as chargé d'affaires a.i. According to the list of the diplomatic corps to the European Union, he has held this role since 2 June 2026.

What the honorary consulate in Liège does for you

For most procedures, there is no need to travel to Paris. The honorary consulate of Benin in Liège supports Beninese nationals in Wallonia in their everyday procedures. It receives the public by appointment and points you to the right procedure.

  • Passport: applications and renewals go through the ePASS platform. Our article Renew your passport online with ePASS explains the steps, and the biometric passport page lists the documents.
  • Consular card: it proves your registration with the Beninese authorities. See the consular card page.
  • Legalisation: authentication of signatures and documents intended for Benin. See the document legalisation page.
  • Civil status: birth declaration, certificate of single status, certificate of nationality. Everything is on the civil status page.

To be received, book a slot with the booking button at the top of the site or through our contact page. Your file is then checked before your visit, which saves you unnecessary trips.

Writing to the competent embassy through our website

Some questions, however, are a matter for the embassy itself. Examples include a blocked file, a specific situation or a deed that only the diplomatic post can handle. In such cases, our website lets you write to the embassy from its directory page.

Your request is first reviewed, then forwarded to the embassy. You then follow the reply in your personal space. You can also start a request directly from your personal space.

This is why we do not publish any embassy email address. This channel keeps a record of every exchange and prevents lost messages.
